Hello there!
A little delayed, I know...As usual. Gosh! It's been an amazingly busy month, which is fantastic! Elliott is growing and exploring and thriving.
At E's 6 month appointment, he weighed in at a whopping 18 lbs. 10.8 oz! (Not as big as I thought for my little chunky monkey). He is around the 75 percentile for weight in babies his age. He is 25 3/4 inches long which is the 25 percentile...meaning, a little shorter than babies his age. Doctor said she is not worried and we could chalk it up to him being early! His little noggin' is also growing well! His curiosity is expanding and it makes both Evan and I laugh daily.
Elliott now has a pending diagnosis of a underdeveloped Larynx. The fancy term is far to difficult to spell, and honestly sounds like Larynsldhwidfteugbvdsvweguloujpgr to me....What we now have to watch for is his breathing during feedings. Since birth, he's always had a little wheeze as he exhales, and I guess breathing becomes more difficult when eating/drinking for him! We will watch it, and if it is still a concern we will look further into it. She assured us not to worry and should grow into his Larynx around age 2.
Developmentally, this has probably been the most fun so far! He is so active! All the kid wants to do is bounce. You cannot just have him sit in your lap with out his little leggies pushing back and forth like...lets go mom! You can really tell his leg muscles have strengthened. He also is WAY focused on whenever Evan and I eat food. Rice cereal worked for the initial introduction to food, but now he only vomits the stuff up so we switched to oatmeal and he LOVES it. He devours it. I literally cannot get food back on that spoon quick enough for this kid! We have been doing Oatmeal with every meal and usually a fruit at breakfast, veggie at lunch and then a meat/veggie mix with a fruit for dinner. He is a great eater. He prefers green veggies. Peas are a favorite it seems, bananas he loves...He also really likes pickles! Pickles you ask? Why yes...pickles. Today, I had gotten back from a hair show in Fargo and stopped at Jimmy Johns for dinner. I always choose a pickle over chips and E was in his high chair eating with daddy when I got home. I have adored pickles my whole life so I bit into the pickle and put a small corner into his mouth...CHOMP CHOMP CHOMP! If he had teeth, that pickled would have been long gone before it had even had a chance to hit my lips! He continued to gnaw on it as we finished dinner, and if I ever in the slightest way moved it out of his reach he would lunge for it! Haha! He is his mothers son! I cannot wait to share in a pickle at the state fair with my little man!
Elliott is still doing very well with sleeping. He now is solely in his room and mostly is always in the crib. Sometimes, if he is fighting sleep so hard, we put him in his swing and he peacefully rocks to sleep. He, thus far, has never woken up upset. I usually will walk into the room after I hear some movement coming across the monitor...and there he is, wide awake greeting me with the hugest of smiles. Speaking of smiles...wow. His melts my heart. Lock up your daughters, Elliott is on the prowl!
At Elliott's baby shower back in November, Cousin Leah and Cousin Hailey got Elliott his snuggle and play puppy that he is obsessed with. He laughs and laughs and tries to eat his nose. It is amazing seeing the happiness in his eyes as he discovers something more. He will pass objects back and forth from hand to hand, remember that he has to pull a certain part of a toy, or push a certain button. It is so cool to see!!
Alright folks! That is all for now...Evan has been working feverishly on organizing the iPhone photos from both phones and I hope to get all the pictures and videos up of little man as soon as possible. A lot of fun things have been happening in the Horton household and we couldn't be more excited for the upcoming months! I was just recently hired on as a contributing writer for the Grand Cities Woman Magazine here in town, and Evan is still exceedingly busy at work, but loving every minute of it!
We are HAPPY!
With that, Happy Easter to all!
Love, Rachel, Evan and Elliott
We have recently expanded our little family to 3! We welcomed our son, Elliott, on September 26th, 2011. It was a long trial to get him here, but he came and is a happy and healthy baby! Please enjoy our stories as we embark on this new and exciting chapter in our lives!

Elliott is 5 months!
Hello Dear Friends and Family!
Again, my deepest apologies for being horrible at updating this thing. I really have no excuse.
A TON of things have happened to us in the year of 2012 already! It has been hectic, challenging, and yet extremely fun. Elliott is now 5 months old. Its amazing watching him grow. I see him everyday and I think back to the day we brought him home and how absolutely insane it is that he was once that small. We guesstimate his weight to be a little over 18 lbs! BIG BOY. With my measure tape, we measure a hint over 24 inches long.
Elliott is full of smiles all the time. He is the sweetest thing in the world. I go into his room every morning greeted with the largest of smiles! It starts my days on a positive note no matter what. Elliott now strictly sleeps in his crib!! He has done very well with the transition from our rooms/pack n play/chair and swing to the crib! I think he enjoys waking up and seeing all of the teddy bears and toys and pictures we have in his room. Elliott is now talking all the time too..."Guh" "Goo" "Eee!" "Wah" "Ooo" are the most of what we hear...but not all! Its hilarious listening to him talk to us. He also LOVES his bouncy gym that Great Grandma Jo got him. There is a giraffe on there that he has deep conversations with often...It is so funny! He also bounces in that thing like CRAZY! Sometimes I think hes going to fly right out! (of course he isn't... :) ) He absolutely loves it. We do a lot of tummy time, and we play on activity mats a lot more than we ever have. He turn from belly to back as well as back to belly with ease. His legs are actively moving and we think by Easter we might have a crawler. He pushes up with his arms quite well, but just needs to get his hips up in the air and he will be mobile. Wow. He is going to be running before we know it! His legs are ALWAYS moving. Whenever anyone holds him he prefers to bounce on your lap facing you, and sitting over your knee if he is facing away so he can see the world. He is often fascinated with his puppy Jack and loves when he gets puppy kisses. Jack loves Elliott too. They are best buds. Wherever E is, Jack is. Elliott is also following the kitties as they walk across the room and just lay down...He tries to talk to them but they never answer ;)
Elliott now only fits in 6 month or larger clothing...It's so sad to me! He has so many cute things he was never able to wear! This 3-6 month age has gone so quickly with his growth.
Elliott loves watching everything. We pull him over into the kitchen in his high chair and he watches us cook and LOVES it...he watched the animals, watches us leave and enter rooms. He definitely gets upset when he sees me leave and then gets so happy when I come back! It breaks my heart whenever I have to go to the bathroom or shower quick...I never like to hear him even the slightest bit upset. The kid seriously only cries when he is hungry. Its amazing how easy going he is.
If you remember from the last entry, we introduced rice cereal to his diet...mostly it goes into his bottles and we have increased the amount slowly. He enjoys it actually. Tonight, we revisited rice cereal with a spoon and he actually ATE! He has been kinda jealous whenever we sit down and eat and he watches us and is like, "Um, mom and dad, where is mine?"...So when we sat down to eat, I had his high chair and rice cereal and he did amazing! We had some kickback of course, but I got 7 spoonfuls into his mouth where he opened up for me and then swallowed. I was so proud! We got a video of that which will be posted eventually too! We will be introducing green colored baby foods probably mid March...He still eats every 3-4 hours...4-6 ounces a time.
His hair is also growing! I am kinda excited about this...I cant wait to give him a little baby faux hawk! Haha!
I think that is all I have on Mr. Elliott right now! Of course new things happen every single day but the biggest milestones are covered! We are going to have 6 month pictures taken very soon too, which I am excited for. We got 2 month pictures done with a friend at a professional studio and they turned out simply amazing. I plan on doing 6 months, then 9 months, then 1 year. I am so mad at myself because I fell of my own bandwagon of his monthly pictures. I kick myself for it...Partly because I wanted the same if not a similar outfit...and could never find it. Oh well...I cannot live for regret and I think I take about 30 pictures a day of him...so I can't get to mad at myself for it.
Me now...Well, I left my job at Avant. I needed more flexibility to be with my family and I couldn't be happier. I still am doing hair, and I now have my own business! I called it "The Hair Movement". I have been so humbled during this past month of me getting up and running. My clients followed me and have been so supportive. It is nice to know they came to see me and liked what I did for their hair versus a location, or customer experience. I still offer the same customer service that I always did and fully educate my clients. I am HAPPY. I am my own boss, I create my schedule, I depend on no one but myself. It challenges me. Most importantly...I am able to do what I love and spend the time with my son that I deserve. I only get these "firsts" once...I do not want to miss them! It has been an amazing month so far! I cannot wait for the future with my business. Happiness is delightful! :)
Well folks, for now, that is all I have! Thanks for reading and look forward to more pictures and videos soon :)

Elliott's First Christmas/3 Months!/ 4months!!
Merry Christmas to all!
I apologize I have been delayed with the blog. Being a new mom, and going back to work full time really wears a person out! I find that any ounce of free time I do have is fully dedicated to me and baby, or our little family of 3. A lot has been going on and we are looking forward to some new and exciting things to be happening within 2012!
Elliott turned 3 months old the day after Christmas! We celebrated by making a Build-a-Bear with Grampa Tim, Gramma Vera, Uncle Josh, Auntie Erica, and Cousins Luke and Reagan. Cousins Matt and Dani came with too! Elliott made a bear named Patches. Patches is super soft and very cuddly and has lots of love inside from Mommy and Daddy! (gramma snuck some love in too :) ) It was a great time...I am excited to bring him back when he is able to pick out his own bear and understand a little more of what is going on!!
We had a very busy December seeing as Mommy officially started back full time! OOFTA. Tiring. Elliott was able to meet almost ALL of his family now...minus some Great Grandparents! It was such an exciting time for all of us. Elliott had just started cooing and was really starting to become quite alert! He loves twinkly lights and shiny wrapping paper! We cannot for next year to see him rip through gifts!!! I am going to eventually get pictures up from Christmas, I promise. I initally started writing this specific blog entry the day we got back from MN but its now a month later and I haven't been able to get to it!
Elliott had his official 4 month birthday on the 26th!! He also had his doctor appointment on this day as well! He weighed in at a hefty 15 lbs. 4.6 oz and is 23.5 inches long! He's a giant. Not really, BUT compared to when we brought him home...hes ginormous. His vocabulary has expanded SO much and he loves to talk...he also is the most smile filled kid I know and is nearly always happy! We ADORE him and cant get enough of him! Elliott got to start eating rice cereal in his bottles as well as the introduction of eating with a spoon! I think both Evan and I were hoping for a small miracle thinking he may sleep through the night, but it hasn't happened yet. I am not complaining. He knows night time and he just eats every 4 hours regardless. When its night time, he will eat and go right back to sleep! Really cannot complain there! Elliott has FAR surpassed his 3 month clothes and is almost fitting into 6 month clothing...That is really funny to me. I joke with many people saying we go to bed to wake up and find that he grew 2 inches and gained 2 lbs! Haha! We are ecstatic at the rate he is developing and growing. He has also recently been reaching for objects and just this last week he reached and held onto his ducky attached to his carseat. He loves his duckie! Elliott also still LOVES bathtime! He still lays spread eagle in the tub too, which is hilarious, and again I promise to get a picture up of that soon too! Elliott follows moving objects quite well and is very drawn to his puppy Jack! They are best buds already...Elliott also has another puppy friend named La'Shy at daycare! La'Shy is a big basset hound and she protects Elliott like he was her own! She is a sweet sweet girl. Elliott also loves going to daycare. Mrs. Becky and "Uncle" Jerry have been absolutely wonderful and love Elliott just as if he were their grandson! Elliott also really loves playing with his pal Anna who is Evan's bosses daughter. She is a great entertainer for Elliott!
Well Folks! For now, that is all I can do! I have a sleeping baby laying on my lap and I must bring him to bed. Like I have said, I promise to get pictures up sooner than later and be prepared for a huge picture assortment!!!
Thank you all for being extremely patient and still reading.
