We have defied the odds! We have made it to 32 weeks! HOORAY!!! AMEN!!!
Wow- I feel like I have been running a marathon! Almost to the finish line...We had another doctor appointment today and I am 75% effaced(thinned) and dilated to a 3. Elliott is always low and is always "right there". I swear they feel his head everytime they check me...So crazy! I got 2 more weeks worth of my contraction stopping medicine, Nifedipine and I am confident I remember my doctor saying after the 2 weeks which brings us to 34 weeks, the meds will be stopped! That is right after labor day. It is crazy to think that my son will arrive soon after that if he doesn't arrive before. I have been feeling pretty good lately though. I feel confident that I can make it to 34. Watch- this kid will stay put until 42 weeks now! Just my luck!!! For some reason, last night, I had this feeling that after my appointment I would be heading to the hospital. I feel so much pressure down there and am waddling like crazy. He really is right there. I wonder if that will make my labor any easier? Wishful thinking...We will see!!!
So much excitement around the house this past week. My mom and dad were up for the weekend, and then my mom has stayed put and will be here through to this upcoming weekend when my dad will come back! Dad took our Commander to change/update fluids and put some new tires on the vehicle! We are ready for winter and ready for baby! He also was able to hop over to IKEA and pick up Mr. Elliott's nursery furniture! We are so excited to get it all put together! Evan surprised me BIG TIME yesterday and painted Elliott's nursery while my mom and I ran to the grocery store. What a relief to have it done! He just has some touch ups to do, but it looks great! Pictures to come very soon, I promise! My mom and I also ran some errands and we were able to pick up everything we need for when Elliott arrives in this world and is able to be home! IT WAS SOO FUN!!! It was a blessing I was able to escape this house for a bit. It did my body good. I was able to move, and stretch and breath the fresh air! AMAZING! Again, I hope to post pictures very soon of some of my purchases! One I am really excited about it the owl mobile I am working on. I decided to not do the felt owls because I knew I wasn't going to do a good enough job on them and I want it to look good. I was on Pier 1's website looking around and at their new arrivals saw some natural based owls all made of twigs and pinecones and stuff like that and I couldn't resist! They will be perfect! I got a papa owl, mama owl and baby owl...so cute. I can't wait to get it assembled and show you all. I am quite proud of it! I am also waiting for a cute little owl that will sit on a shelf of Elliott's with his long little legs dangling...it's adorable. Evan's goal is to have the room all set to go by labor day...I think it will be set this weekend! Finally- I feel like there is progress being made and it is a glorious feeling. All of our other side shipments have arrived as well- crib, pack and play, swing/bouncer, highchair (we know we dont need it yet, but it was going out of stock and I am a freak about matching sets)...We are officially done purchasing for baby! Woohoo!
We have another appointment on Thursday with Dr. Trottier and we will see where I am at! Elliott really is seeming to be doing well. He is always very active and keeps things moving and shaking. He should be just passed 4 lbs and anywhere between 16-19 inches long! He could be the length he will be at birth! It will be interesting to see how long he will be and how much he will weigh. Only time will tell! Right now, Elliott is busy packing on the pounds as this is a rapid weight gain time. His development as far is organs and systems is there...just needs maturing! With the fact we got 2 sets of the steroid shots- he should be in a really good place with his breathing if he does come early. That is pretty much it with Mr. Elliott. His heartbeats are always strong between 136-141. I am not sure if we will have another ultrasound or not...
Like I said earlier- I am feeling good. I am sore, feeling huge, starting to swell here and there and am finding it harder and harder to breath. All normal things I am told. Now that my mom/my dad are/have been here I am mentally in a lot better of a place. It's nice to talk to people...not animals. I have gotten some lovely gifts from my folks too- It's been so fun having these baby shopping trips because my mom and I have a blast. "omg how cute-oh look at this-oh I NEED this" Typical women shopping. It is has been especially nice being able to pick her brain on the really NEEDS of a newborn. Of course, we got some of our wants too, but it's nice to know that I don't truthfully need certain things.
Evan is doing well. He is VERY busy right now. Work for him has just spiraled because they are WAY understaffed and are working a huge operation on as little amounts of bodies as possible. Poor guy doesn't need the added stress of his work on him. His boss will be out soon for gullbladder surgery and then he just lost the full time staff directly under him for a better full time position in the field he got a degree in. Poor Evan. His hours are getting longer by the day and when he gets home he is just exhausted. He is so ready for Elliott to be here. He is so excited to have a son. He keeps saying, I want him as healthy as possible, but if he wanted to come tomorrow, I'd be fine with it! Hahaha! I don't blame him- I think we are all there. Evan is also full swing back into school and trying to maintain his schoolwork. Busy Busy Busy. I think that will be his new nickname... "busy".
Alright then everyone, thanks for reading another uneventful (Hooray!) post. You are all troopers listening to my babble! I promise to have a belly picture, nursery pictures, and purchase pictures up by weeks end! Check back soon!
Love, Rachel
We have recently expanded our little family to 3! We welcomed our son, Elliott, on September 26th, 2011. It was a long trial to get him here, but he came and is a happy and healthy baby! Please enjoy our stories as we embark on this new and exciting chapter in our lives!

Update 8/17
Hello Everyone-
I had another routine doctor appointment today. I always walk into these appointments now terrified at what the outcome will be. I had some trace protein in my "sample" which can be a sign of pre-eclampsia. Pre-eclampsia usually is accompanied by high blood pressure though, and mine has been extremely low. Well, low enough but not low enough to worry about. I have now dilated to a 3, have tons of pressure still and Elliott is still very low. I had some pretty strong contractions last night that woke me out of a dead sleep, but luckily were very irregular. What is unlucky about it though, is that something caused me to dilate further. I only was given 1 more weeks worth of my Nifedipine to stop contractions. 1 more week=32 weeks. I am not 100% what will happen at the 32 week appointment-if I will get another week's worth or if we will just let Elliott come if he wants. My doctor did say for sure stopping the medicine at 34 weeks though. It is so crazy to think because I just have this feeling that once that med is stopped...baby is coming. One huge thing I read on a website today was that at 32 weeks, the lungs can now properly work by themselves...they are still very underdeveloped BUT they can work. With the 4 shots of steroids I got to help Elliott's lungs, this made me feel very confident that if he does decide to come so early...he wont be struggling too much.
I am eagerly awaiting seeing the UPS man this week. I have many purchases arriving at the house for E's nursery/life this week. I cannot wait to get that project started/finished. One less thing to worry about after Elliott is born. It is crucial for me to set up a routine for the little man and its going to be WAY to much for our family dealing with a new baby, less living space for us/visitors/3 animals, and everything that comes with a newborn. I just cannot wait to have his space. There is something about being able to create a nursery for your unborn child...I felt so robbed early on realizing how we were not going to have anything done for the little guy. That was depressing. Only have a pack n play and clothes and diapers? That's no fun. No fun at all. He deserves to have a space and it was important to me to have that for myself and for Evan. It's our babies room. Wow...our baby. I cannot wait to meet him.

31 Weeks!
Hello Everyone! Elliott here! I am 31 weeks old today!
Right now, I weigh probably somewhere between 3.5-4lbs. Some of mommy's information she gets says 3.3 lbs but I weighed more than that at the ultrasound! I could be anywhere between 16-19 inches long now too! As I get bigger, I lose space in Mommy's tummy and boy can she tell. I kick her and punch her, and roll around in there and she really feels me a lot! I am able to now move my head side to side which is exciting. Mommy actually can tell which way I am looking because when I have the hiccups she can feel which side they are mainly coming from! I have the hiccups a lot. A nurse told Mommy when she was in the hospital that I will continue to have hiccups a lot when I am born because I am having them so much now. I really enjoy moving around in Mommy's tummy and she loves it too, for the most part. She loves seeing me move from side to side and has been able to feel my legs and my feet. One thing she isn't so fond of, is how I like to pound on her when she is trying to go to bed...she manages though!
Sleeping has become hard for Mommy lately. I like to be awake at night and that tends to keep her up, but even when she does fall asleep I will kick her bladder and then shes up again! She also is really really sore. Her legs feel like jello a lot of the time and her back hurts her a lot. Her hips are really sore too. Mommy has been stretching as much as she can and moving her arms to stay active.
Mommy has been staying busy lately even more so than normal. She has been staying busy with her work newsletters and has been doing some online shopping too! She is getting some things for me which I am really excited to see! She also finally got her projects downstairs and plans to start on them soon! Nana V is coming this week and Mommy and Nana are going to stay busy too. Mommy has some things she needs help going through so Nana hopefully will be able to help Mommy with that. Nana is going to bring Mommy to all of her doctors appointments coming up so Daddy can rebuild his vacation time. Mommy and Daddy are a little nervous for the holidays this year because Daddy has used so much time for me already.
Daddy is always busy! Daddy went to Lowes and got a whole bunch of paint samples for Mommy to look at for my nursery. Daddy has to work this weekend, but if he has time, he hopes to get my room painted! They picked out some very nice colors and I am excited to see my room. Daddy also has added another project of finishing out the closet in my nursery! Daddy pulled out everything from my room and hopes to have everything of mine set to go soon! Daddy is surprised we have made it this far and has a countdown for next week because 32 is our major goal! Though I can come at anytime, anytime past 32 is best!
Well, Mommy hopes to have some belly pictures up for next week and maybe even some pictures of some of the things Mommy is working on. Until next week everyone!!
Mommy has her two doctor appointments this week and hopefully all stays well! She will let you know!
Love you all!

30 weeks! Hello 30's!!
Hello 30's! What an achievement we have made to pass the 30 week mark! I do not think anyone thought we would get this far, but we did. My doctor stresses to me that I am doing everything right and he is very proud of me. He is shocked every time I see him and his chin drops at every appointment which is quickly followed with a high five! He is so awesome. I am going to be sad for the time when we leave Grand Forks because I know I cannot doctor 5 hours away. He has taken such good care of us, and truly has become a friend.
We had another ultrasound (which we hadn't anticipated needing because we didn't think we'd make it to 30) and it was great to see our little man again. Elliott is still hanging out very very very low, pushing very hard down there. Pressure was relieved down on my cervix for about 2 weeks, but now is back. I am hanging out dilated at about a 2 now and I feel contractions every so often. They are becoming more noticeable and slightly irritating. They are not yet painful luckily, but it will come sooner than later I know. Elliott was moving all over the place as he usually does so we were unable to get any good shots of the little guy. His head is so far into my pelvis that we had no hope. His little feeties is what has been kicking me up high and his little hands is what has been using my bladder as a punching bag. It's so cool to officially know that now because I literally can feel a foot or the length of a leg pass over my stomach. It is such a surreal feeling. I can't see a foot pushing into my stomach but I know exactly where he is laying mostly at all times. It's so funny to see the right side of my belly huge and high and the left is no where to be found! He makes me look so deformed! Hahaha! Elliott's measurements estimated him to be about 3 lbs. 6 oz.! He is packing on the pounds! (and so is Mommy!) I asked the doctor about the echogenic bowel and he didn't say it was still there but he also didn't say that it was gone. He pretty much said everything is looking good! He would definitely tell us if something was up so its comforting to know it is one less thing to worry about! I completely forgot to ask about how long Elliott was measuring but one of my websites tells me he could be anywhere between 15-17 inches long! So cool!
I have been having more rough days then good lately. I am still able to do some work for the salon at home which I LOVE doing because it's keeping me busy. I am creating "Blasts" which are weekly newsletters for the salon giving repeat clients the "in's" about upcoming products and sales. It is getting my mind back working creatively and it is one of those things that when I start it, I cannot put it down because it consumes me! I really enjoy doing things like that so I am happy I have the opportunity too.
Emotionally, I am doing okay. I am starting to struggle with being alone the majority of the day and the emotions are starting to overwhelm me. I cannot tell you how many times I have wanted to just run upstairs and take a shower myself, or run out the door and take a walk, or hop in the car and run to the store. Being confined to this bed is becoming torture. I know I have made it this far, and I only have, at most, 10 weeks to go, but this is excruciating. I would never wish this on anyone. I know, I know...This sounds horrible, right? Well, I can't help what I feel and I wouldn't have it any other way, but it really wears you down. Physically, emotionally, and mentally. I know my little boy is benefiting from this and it is all the matters, it is just really hard.
Not much has changed for Evan. He is still working hard at work, working hard and school, and working hard around the house. It's stressful for him I can tell. It would be so much easier to live closer to our families but alas...we are alone. I hate that everything has fallen on him, and it kills me I cannot even help unload the dishwasher. He is managing. He try's to get errands done after work so he can just relax on the weekends. I don't blame him. I'd try and do the same if I were him.
I just caught the UPS guy outside my door delivering a very exciting package! Our travel system came!!! I saw him pull up and so I got up as quickly as I could and managed to catch him before he left, asking if he could just set it inside for me. He was very nice and did! I cannot wait to open it and see it!!! It's the first big thing for Elliott we have gotten. Thank you to Nana V, Papa Tim, and Peggy for the wonderful and much needed travel system. After reading and going through all of our hospital paperwork, it was carseat this, carseat that...and of course I freaked out and just wanted to have the thing ready no matter what. I know that even if he came early we wouldn't need it right away because he'd be living in the NICU but its just nice to have. Plus, I haven't been able to get ANYTHING for baby so to feel unprepared is an understatement.
My mom is coming back up in exactly one week, for about 2 weeks. She will be driving me to my doctors appointments relieving Evan of this task. It is very helpful because now that I have to see the doctor twice a week, we are eating into Ev's vacation time which steals away time that he will get to spend with his son in the first couple days after he is born. I am excited to have someone here with me during the days too. Being able to talk, and just have some additional help is just awesome. My dad also might be able to sneak up here for a weekend if it works out. We ended up changing all of our nursery furniture choices to more affordable and better reviewed pieces. The only problem is, is that with us being in ND which has pretty much no stores for baby...everything is back home. We are going to try to work it out to have my Dad pick some things up for us, take the Commander home and get our new tires put on and then drive up with all of Elliott's nursery stuff! Evan's goal is to have Elliott's nursery done before or on Labor Day weekend. We will be 33 weeks that week and we might be taken off the Nifedipine at 34 weeks. We just think it will be easier to have the nursery completed before he arrives even if he wont be using it until months after he is born. It is one thing to keep us busy during this waiting game, and also one less thing to complete once he is here. We are going to be so busy after he comes because we hop right into holiday seasons. That means a lot of going home to Minnesota and not being home in ND to get things done. There will also be less cargo room for things because we will have all of E's cargo! It's just better to get it done now! When my mom arrives...we are going to see what the doctor says and see if he thinks it would be okay to have me sit and drive myself around some stores in the little motorized cart! That way, my mom and I can grab some of the essentials Elliott will need right after he comes home. I am just excited to get out of this house, back in to public and buying some things for my baby! I cannot wait to meet him. As the time starts getting shorter and shorter my excitement grows along with my fear. Holy cow! He is coming! He could be here at anytime!
Well, I am off to watch some more TV. I am watching a baby story on TLC right now and I cry whenever a baby is born. Haha! I am pathetic. I might have some belly pictures to put up later, or in the next 2 weeks for sure. Lets hope we can make it 2 more weeks and hit 32!
Have a wonderful week everyone! Talk soon...
-Rachel

29 weeks!
Hello my dear friends and family, Elliott here, giving you the latest and greatest on everything me!
I have officially reached the 29 week mark! I sure have scared Mommy and Daddy (and a lot of other people too) into thinking I wanted out sooner, but for now I am staying put. Mommy had a doctor appointment today and everything is continuing to look good. My heart beat is consistently strong between 130-140. Mommy's fundal height is right on track measuring at 29 cm's. Mommy's cervix has no movement as of lately either...still the same! I am pushing down a little more on mommy again but the doctor said I am not causing changes. I don't mean to, I am just loosing space in Mommy's tummy! Mommy can feel me hiccuping really low and then I kick her in the rib...goes to show you how much space I have ;) Sorry Mommy!
I could weigh anywhere from 2.5-3 lbs now! Boy is it showing...Mommy feels really pregnant now. I really popped out again! I am about 15 inches long from head to heel now! At one of Mommy's doctor appointments last week, her Nurse Practitioner, Kathy, told Mommy I was about the size of a Barbie or Baby doll. I'd rather take the size of a transformer...
The biggest and newest development I am experiencing is in my brain. Right now it has been fairly round and unwrinkled. This week, thanks to my developing senses through sucking, hearing, and somewhat seeing...my brain has started to get all of those "thinking" wrinkles! So exciting! I am learning already!
Mommy has been feeling okay lately. The medicine she is on makes her shaky every once in awhile. It's also been overwhelming for Mommy to make sure to take all of her added meds. She is making do. She is slightly anemic now, so has been put on an Iron supplement too. Mommy has been quite tired lately. She finds that she sleeps a lot, but then thinks that when I come, she won't be so she is just banking sleep early! She has called the doctor once after having 6 contractions in an hour but everything ended up being okay! Just testing her. Mommy told me she is on an emotional roller coaster right now too. She is very happy, then very sad, gets angry and annoyed easily, but then cries because she feels bad. She cannot wait to have that be done. She just tells me she is stressed and wants to meet me. This has been overwhelming for her even though she lays around all day...
Daddy has been feeling just okay too. He needs a break. He has the added responsibility of all animal care, all household cleaning, laundry, shopping, finances, school work, work work, and caring for Mommy. He has been doing an amazing job but it is definitely taking its toll. Daddy got sick last week and he is feeling better now. His emotions are up and down too. He is trying to be strong for Mommy but sometimes just can't. What he doesn't realize is that he is always strong for Mommy. He is my superhero. I love my Daddy.
Well folks, that is all for now. Here is a picture of Mommy with me at 29 weeks. She is feeling huge and isn't the happiest about the look of the picture. This however was the first day she has blow dried her hair in over a month and felt her best, even without a stitch of makeup on...Enjoy!
Talk to you next week!
Love you!
